Compression

Compression
A&V
Improper video signal level caused by nonlinearity in a circuit's transfer function. Results in lack of detail in either the black or white areas of the video picture. Can also be caused by pointing a video camera at a scene that has a total black-to-white range. Wider than a standard television signal can handle.

VP
There are two main types of compression; signal compression and data compression. A good example of such compression are formats such as MP3.
————————
PodA/V
a way of making an audio or video file smaller while trying to maintain sound quality. The more compression you use, the smaller the file, but the more likely sound quality will suffer. MP3 is a common form of audio compression.
————————
HD
The process of reducing the bandwidth or data rate in a video or audio signal. Often used with audio and video to reduce storage and transmission costs. Compression techniques common in digital imaging rely on removing both redundant data and data that is deemed less critical or imperceptible to the viewer. This can be done either within a frame (intra-frame compression) or across multiple frames (inter-frame compression). Compression systems are developed to reduce perceptible losses, however most compression systems in use today will exhibit some level of distortion.
————————
PP
The removal of redundant information from a file or video signal in order to reduce its file size or transmission rate.

WikiV
a) The process of electronically processing a digital video picture to make it use less storage or to allow more video to be sent down a transmission channel. b) The process of removing picture data to decrease the size of a video image. c) The reduction in the volume of data from any given process so that more data can be stored in a smaller space. There are a variety of compression schemes that can be applied to data of which MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 are called lossy since the data produced by compression is not totally recoverable. There are other compression schemes that are totally recoverable, but the degree of compression is much more limited.[1]

TV
Compression refers to the reduction of the size of digital data files by removing redundant and/or non-critical information ("data" being the elements of video, audio and other "information"). Digital TV in the would not be possible without compression.
